Update from our partners in Kenya
12th December 2014
Our partners at Ol Pejeta Conservancy have deployed the latest Brightgreen solar kits to off-grid communities around their wildlife sanctuary.
“There was lots of excitement among the families on getting the lights”, says Community Development Manager, Moses Muthoki.
“Some kids were shouting that they now had ‘stima’ (electricity) and the adults were excited that they would not have to travel some as far as 5 kilometers to get their phones charged.”
Receiving these life-changing gifts enables people to study and conduct business during the evening.
When a family in Kenya switches to a solar LED kit it often means that they can stop using paraffin lamps (the most affordable alternative to electric light) and avoid the toxic fumes and associated health risks.
“This is remarkable and will have an impact which will hopefully translate into the general communities embracing solar lighting,” says Muthoki.
Thanks to the team at Ol Pejeta Conservancy for their assistance!
We are still supporting Light Up Kenya through your lighting projects here in Australia, and we will continue to do so next year.
For every Australian home lit up using Brightgreen lights, we will light up a home in Kenya.
