We came across this great story yesterday about four teenage girls who have found a way to convert pee into power. The high school students presented their urine-powered generator at Maker Faire Africa last week in Lagos, Nigeria, which offers creators a platform to show off their ingenuity and innovation in solving immediate problems.

The girl’s idea generated a lot of buzz that quickly zigzagged through the internet, and for good reason: it’s a damn good one. Apparently one litre of pee = six hours of electricity, which would help to solve a number of problems in Africa, since pee is free and readily available.

While people have pointed out a number of questions the girl’s generator raises, we think it’s a commendable effort from these young inventors.

And as for poo power, Rwandan prisons already have that system perfected. Maybe we should be taking our cues on how to recycle waste matter from Africa.
